Champaign, Illinois – Gusty winds and scattered showers are expected to hit Champaign through Thursday afternoon, bringing reduced visibility and slick roads during commutes. Winds could reach up to 30 mph Wednesday, making for difficult driving conditions in open areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, a 30 percent chance of rain will develop between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. Wednesday, with another round possible after 1 p.m. Thursday. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 40s, while daytime highs hover around the low 60s.
Wind gusts up to 24 mph are forecast Wednesday night, especially on rural routes west of Champaign and near I-57 and Route 10. While rainfall totals remain light, drivers should expect slick conditions on untreated roads. Residents are urged to secure loose outdoor items and limit high-profile vehicle travel during peak gust periods.
By Friday, conditions improve with mostly sunny skies and highs near 67°F. However, more rain is likely by Saturday night, with a 60 percent chance of showers returning to the area.
