Chicago, IL – Rain is expected to sweep through the Chicago area tonight, with isolated thunderstorms primarily affecting areas south of I-80. Local residents should prepare for evening rain that may extend through the night and into Thursday morning, causing potentially slick roads and reduced visibility for commuters.
According to the National Weather Service (NWS) in Chicago, the rain will develop from the south and spread northward, impacting areas across northern Illinois and northwest Indiana. Rain chances tonight are high, at 90-100%, with the possibility of isolated storms between sunset and midnight. NWS officials note that while severe weather is not anticipated, limited thunderstorms could still produce brief heavy rainfall and gusty winds, especially along I-80.
Thursday’s forecast brings a slight improvement, with scattered showers tapering off by midday and mild temperatures expected to reach the mid-50s. Lingering clouds and lake-effect drizzle could affect some areas in northwest Indiana, but most of the region should dry out by Thursday night.
Looking ahead, Friday promises sunshine with seasonal highs around 55 degrees, followed by mostly clear skies into Friday night. Saturday is expected to be partly sunny with temperatures nearing 60, providing a welcome break from the damp midweek weather. Sunday could see more cloud cover, with a slight chance of rain by the evening.
Residents planning weekend activities can look forward to dry conditions by Friday and Saturday, making this an ideal time for any outdoor plans.
