Affected areas include Fulton, Alton, Edwardsville, Belleville, and Hannibal, extending along key corridors like I-70, I-64, and I-55.
Sub-freezing lows as cold as 26°F were recorded overnight, with widespread frost risking damage to crops, garden plants, and unprotected plumbing. Residents are urged to cover or bring in tender vegetation and check exposed outdoor piping.
Tuesday brings a break from the cold, with sunny skies and highs near 54°F. However, chilly air returns Tuesday night, with a low around 39°F. Looking ahead, rain chances increase Wednesday, with possible thunderstorms Wednesday night and highs climbing into the upper 60s.
