Chicago, IL – The first flakes of the season could fall across parts of northern Illinois by early Sunday, as colder air arrives behind a pair of late-week systems, according to the National Weather Service in Chicago.
Forecasters expect breezy and mild conditions through Wednesday, with highs ranging from 57 to 64°F and wind gusts up to 35 mph. Dry weather holds through midweek before rain chances return Thursday night into Friday, followed by another round of showers Saturday afternoon into Sunday.
As temperatures drop into the 30s Sunday morning, some of the rain could mix with or briefly change to snow, mainly across northern Illinois and areas near the Lake Michigan shoreline. No significant accumulation is expected.
Daytime highs will cool from the upper 50s Friday to the mid-40s by Sunday, with lows dipping into the 20s and 30s.
Meteorologists say this shift marks the start of a colder pattern heading into mid-November, as a push of Arctic air spreads across the Great Lakes region next week.
Residents should prepare for wet roads, falling leaves, and a brisk weekend chill as the fall-to-winter transition begins.
