Fairbanks, AK – Snow is set to make a steady return to Alaska’s Interior beginning Wednesday night, with several inches expected through Saturday, according to the National Weather Service in Fairbanks.

Forecasters say a south to southeasterly flow will carry a wave of energy across central and eastern Alaska, spreading snow from the Tanana Valley and Fairbanks region northward to the White Mountains and Brooks Range.

Between 1 to 4 inches of snow is likely in the central and eastern Interior, including Fairbanks and the Alaska Range. Heavier totals of 3 to 6 inches are forecast across the northern Interior, particularly along the southern slopes of the Brooks Range, the Steese Highway, and Dalton Highway summits.

The heaviest snowfall is expected Friday into Saturday, with below-freezing temperatures keeping the snow light and fluffy. Drivers are urged to use caution and check 511.alaska.gov for real-time road updates as conditions may become slick across highways and rural routes.

Travelers and residents are encouraged to plan ahead for slower commutes and possible reduced visibility during the snow periods.
