Illinois Tragedy: Semi Crash into School Bus in Rushville Kills Three Children, Two Adults

Rushville, IL – A devastating crash Monday morning on Route 24 in Rushville ended in the deaths of five individuals, including three young children. 

According to Illinois State Police reported that around 11:30 a.m., a school bus carrying children collided with a semi-truck, leading to a horrific scene as both vehicles burst into flames.

Eyewitness accounts and preliminary reports from the Illinois State Police reveal that the school bus, traveling eastbound, inexplicably crossed into the opposite lanes, initiating a catastrophic crash with the westbound semi-truck. 

The victims identified by the Schuyler County Coroner are David Coufal, aged 72, Angela Spiker, aged 57, and three children from Rushville: Maria Miller, 5, Andrew Miller, and Noah Driscoll, both aged 3.

Rescue efforts were promptly executed by the Rushville Fire Department, Police Department, Schuyler County Fire Protection District, Schuyler Ambulance, and the Schuyler County Sheriff’s Department, who provided critical assistance. The community mourns the immense loss, and Illinois State Police Director Brendan F. Kelly expressed deep condolences, stating that such a crash is a situation no family should ever confront. Investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of this tragic incident.
