Joliet, Illinois –Drivers in Joliet and Rockdale are facing major detours this week as key I-80 ramps and roads shut down for pavement repairs, with reopenings expected by Friday, May 2—weather permitting.

According to I-80 Will, the eastbound I-80 ramp to northbound Center Street is fully closed, as is northbound Center Street between Meadow Avenue and I-80. Additionally, the westbound I-80 ramp to southbound Center Street and Meadow Avenue is seeing intermittent closures throughout the week.

These shutdowns are part of ongoing infrastructure improvements, but they’re already causing significant congestion in the area. Motorists are urged to seek alternative routes, especially during peak travel hours.

Local drivers using Meadow Avenue, Wheeler Avenue, or heading into downtown Joliet should plan for delays or consider public transit if available. Emergency vehicles and school transportation may also be impacted.

The closures mark a critical phase in the region’s multi-year rebuild of I-80, which sees tens of thousands of vehicles daily. Updates will follow if the schedule changes due to weather.

Closures are expected to lift by Friday, but additional advisories could be issued. Stay tuned to I-80 Will for the latest updates.
