According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, showers and storms will continue into the evening, with the potential for wind gusts over 50 mph. Scattered downpours and storms will remain in the area Thursday and Friday, particularly affecting communities east and southeast of Springfield. Localized flooding may occur due to heavy rainfall.
Cities including Decatur, Charleston, Effingham, and Mattoon should prepare for possible power outages, slick roads, and brief street flooding. Motorists on I-72 and I-57 should use caution, particularly during peak evening and early morning hours. Outdoor events may be disrupted, and residents are urged to secure loose objects and check local alerts.
Saturday offers a dry window, with mostly sunny skies and highs near 80°F. However, more showers and storms are expected to return by Sunday afternoon.
