Chicago, Illinois – Scattered thunderstorms will continue to roll through northern Illinois through Wednesday night, bringing a chance of hail, gusty winds, and heavy downpours, especially north of I-88 and away from Lake Michigan.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the severe weather threat remains low—around 5% or less—but some stronger cells could still produce up to 1-inch hail and winds between 30–40 mph. Showers are expected to arrive in waves, with long dry stretches between, especially during daylight hours.

Cities like Naperville, Elgin, and Rockford could see evening storms tonight and into early Wednesday, while lakeside areas such as Evanston and downtown Chicago may remain relatively drier. Temperatures will hover between 72–78°F inland, staying cooler along the lakefront. Thursday is expected to bring a warm and mostly dry break with highs reaching 80°F away from the lake.

Residents are urged to stay weather-aware and head indoors at the first sign of thunder. Storm chances return Friday, bringing another round of showers across the region.

⚠️ Periodic thunderstorm chances remain through Friday—check back for updates as new advisories may be issued.
