Arlington Heights, IL – The Arlington Heights Police Department announced results from its 2025 traffic safety enforcement initiative funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) Sustained Traffic Enforcement Program (STEP) Grant. The campaign, which ran from October 1, 2024, through September 30, 2025, focused on reducing crashes and saving lives across local roadways.
According to the department, officers dedicated 347 hours of additional enforcement time, resulting in a total of 796 traffic citations. Those included 382 distracted driving violations, 187 speeding tickets, 145 seat belt and occupant restraint citations, and 82 citations for registration, insurance, or equipment violations.
Police said these efforts targeted the leading causes of roadway injuries and fatalities — including distracted and impaired driving, disobeying traffic signals, and seat belt violations.
“The results reflect the department’s ongoing commitment to keeping Arlington Heights streets safe for everyone,” officials said in the release.
The STEP program, funded by federal highway safety funds and administered by IDOT, supports local police agencies in traffic safety enforcement. Arlington Heights Police confirmed they plan to continue participation in the FY2026 STEP Grant to maintain a focus on safer roadways.
