Chicago, IL – A Chicago man has been arrested following an expressway shooting that left one person injured during an alleged road rage incident.
According to the Illinois State Police (ISP), 34-year-old Jesus A. Rodriguez of Chicago was arrested for Attempted Murder and Aggravated Battery with a Firearm, both Class X felonies. ISP reports the incident occurred around 5:27 p.m. on Wednesday on Interstate 55 at Central Avenue.
Authorities said an occupant of Rodriguez’s vehicle allegedly fired a weapon, striking another vehicle. The victim, who was hit in the left arm by gunfire, was transported to a local hospital. ISP investigators were able to quickly identify and apprehend Rodriguez within hours.
On Friday, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges against Rodriguez. He is currently being held pending his first court appearance, according to officials.
ISP is reminding the public to remain calm and avoid confrontation when faced with aggressive driving. Their “Road Rage. Don’t Engage.” campaign encourages drivers to seek help immediately if they feel threatened, either by calling 911 or contacting the nearest police department. Additional information about road rage prevention is available at the ISP’s website.
Authorities emphasize that the charges are allegations at this time, and Rodriguez is presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
