Chicago, IL – Snow is expected to spread across Illinois late Thursday into early Friday, potentially impacting morning commutes with slippery roads and reduced visibility. Residents along I-55 and surrounding areas are urged to plan for delays and exercise caution.

According to the National Weather Service, snow will begin overnight and taper off from west to east by Friday afternoon. Accumulations are expected to range from less than an inch northwest of Chicago to 2–3 inches in areas near Paxton and Kankakee. Chicago and its suburbs, including Joliet, could see up to 2 inches. The heaviest snowfall is likely during the early morning hours.

Motorists should allow extra travel time and prepare for icy conditions, especially on untreated roads. Visibility may be reduced during the heaviest snow, making travel hazardous. The Illinois Department of Transportation advises avoiding unnecessary travel during peak snowfall.

Friday’s high temperature is expected to reach 30°F with light winds. Conditions will clear by Friday night, with lows dropping to 18°F.

Looking ahead, a mostly sunny Saturday with a high of 28°F offers a brief reprieve before another chance of snow on Sunday. A cold front early next week could bring sub-zero wind chills as low as -15°F by Tuesday morning.
