St. Charles, IL – A new Scouting initiative in Illinois will see youth and adults shaving their heads next month as part of a unique fundraiser blending community service with a personal cause.

On June 14, Scouting America’s Three Fires Council will host its first-ever Bald Eagles Club fundraiser at six Fox Valley hair salons. The event will raise money for childhood cancer research and Scouting programs across the region. Participants can earn a special edition Bald Eagles Club patch, even if they are not enrolled in Scouting.

According to the Three Fires Council, salons participating in the event include Floyd’s 99 Barbershop and Erin Lynn Studios in Geneva; Foltos Tonsorial Parlor and J Decarlo Salon & Spa in Batavia; Sport Clips in St. Charles; and Old Time Barbershop in Aurora. Dozens of licensed hairdressers will donate their time and services throughout the day.

The event honors Kelly Quinn, a Scouting council employee diagnosed with Diffused large B cell lymphoma. “This is a way to do a good turn in the community while also recognizing Kelly,” said District Executive Len Bogacki. “Flag Day will also be known as Bald Eagles Day.”

The Bald Eagles Club was created to offer participants a visible symbol of support for cancer awareness and Scouting. Registration and additional event details are available at BaldEagles.givesmart.com.

Three Fires Council, founded in 1925 and based in St. Charles, serves more than 7,500 youth in Kane, DuPage, Kendall, DeKalb, and parts of Will and Cook counties. The council also operates Camp Big Timber, a 75-acre outdoor education center in Elgin.
