Gurnee, IL – As Super Bowl weekend approaches, the Gurnee Police Department intensifies its campaign against impaired driving. The department reminds locals and visitors that having a designated driver is the safest way to enjoy the festivities.

According to the Gurnee Police Department, whether the celebration involves alcohol or cannabis, it’s crucial to have a plan for a safe ride home. Hosting parties also means ensuring designated drivers are well taken care of. The department emphasizes that impaired driving, even minimally, can significantly affect judgment and increase risks on the road.

The reminder extends to pedestrians as well, advising them to walk with a sober companion for safety. The police also stress the importance of following all traffic laws, including wearing seat belts and avoiding distracted driving.

For a safe Super Bowl celebration, the Gurnee Police Department suggests the following tips:

  • Never drive impaired; use public transport, ride services, or a designated sober driver.
  • Report impaired drivers to law enforcement.
  • Prevent friends from driving under the influence.
  • Always wear a seat belt.

This safety campaign is part of the Illinois “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” initiative, funded by the Illinois Department of Transportation and federal highway safety funds from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
