Henry County, IL – A high-speed pursuit reaching 149 miles per hour along Interstate 74 early Saturday led to the arrest of a 24-year-old driver from Massachusetts, according to the Henry County Sheriff’s Office.

The chase began around 3:38 a.m. when a Henry County deputy attempted to stop a speeding vehicle near mile marker 17 in a 70 mph zone. According to authorities, the driver failed to stop, prompting deputies to pursue the vehicle into Knox County.

Henry County deputies discontinued the pursuit at the county line and requested assistance from nearby law enforcement agencies. The Knox County Sheriff’s Department soon located the vehicle and took the driver into custody without incident.

The suspect, identified as Brenden A. Ballard, 24, of Upper Marlboro, MA, was transported to the Henry County Jail. He faces two misdemeanor charges of speeding and reckless driving, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Officials thanked Knox County deputies and assisting agencies for their rapid response.
“All individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law,” the department added in its release.
