East St. Louis, IL —A Fairview Heights teen was arrested Tuesday in connection with a fatal March 23 shooting in East St. Louis.
According to the Illinois State Police, the 17-year-old was charged with First Degree Murder (Class M felony) after a man was killed while waiting at a bus stop on the 2500 block of Bond Avenue. The victim, identified as 41-year-old Cicero C. Maple of East St. Louis, sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was later pronounced dead.
The Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation’s Public Safety Enforcement Group led the arrest with support from the East St. Louis Police Department. Following the investigation, the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges on March 26, 2025.
The juvenile is currently being held at the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center. Due to the suspect’s age, the name is being withheld. No further identifying details have been released.
Authorities emphasized that the charge is not evidence of guilt. The suspect is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
