Illinois – Kohl’s has announced it will close 27 underperforming stores nationwide, including two Illinois locations, by April 2025. The move is part of the company’s strategy to streamline operations and focus on long-term growth.

According to a statement from Kohl’s, the Illinois stores set to close are in Plainfield, located at 11860 S Route 59, and in Spring Hill at 3000 Spring Hill Ring Road in West Dundee. These closures represent less than 3% of the company’s 1,150 stores nationwide.

The closures come as Kohl’s faces increasing pressure from changing consumer habits and rising e-commerce trends. The company hopes these adjustments will prevent the financial struggles that plagued competitors like Sears and JCPenney.

Shoppers at the affected locations are advised to take advantage of clearance sales and begin exploring nearby stores or online options for future purchases.

The closures follow similar announcements by Macy’s, signaling broader challenges for traditional department stores in today’s retail market.
