Illinois and Iowa sunshine is pouring into the Quad Cities this morning, but it started with a sharp bite. Temperatures dipped to 24 degrees in Moline before sunrise. Frost clung to windshields, and the air felt brisk along the Mississippi River.
That chill fades fast. Highs surge to 60 degrees this afternoon under bright sunshine. Winds remain light from the northwest near 5 mph, keeping conditions calm across Davenport and Rock Island. Roads along I-80 and I-74 are dry, but early slick spots were possible where frost settled.
Tonight turns milder, with lows near 38 as clouds increase. Monday brings mostly sunny skies and a high near 65 degrees. Southwest winds strengthen to 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 25 mph. It will feel more like April than mid-February.
Tuesday stays mild with highs near 63 under mostly cloudy skies. A 40 percent chance of rain develops after midnight Tuesday night. Wednesday rebounds to sunny and 64 degrees before another system approaches.
By Thursday afternoon, a 30 percent chance of rain returns. Colder air filters in Thursday night. Rain may mix with or change to snow before ending. While no heavy snow is expected, even a light coating could create slick patches if temperatures fall quickly.
This is classic flash freeze season. Wet pavement can refreeze fast after dark when readings drop toward freezing. Drivers should stay alert late week, especially on bridges and elevated ramps.
Looking into President’s Day week and the 6–10 day outlook, above-normal temperatures expand across much of the central U.S. Spring vibes are building, though periodic rain chances continue.
