Davenport, Iowa – Isolated severe storms may target eastern Iowa and northwest Illinois Monday evening, with hail and 45 mph wind gusts possible between 6 PM and midnight.

According to the National Weather Service Quad Cities office, the risk depends heavily on where a warm front settles. If storms do form, the highest likelihood for severe weather falls between 6 PM and 12 AM, particularly in the Quad Cities, Cedar Rapids, and southeast Iowa. Hail is the primary concern, but locally heavy rainfall up to an inch per hour could cause minor flooding in low-lying areas.

Cities along the I-80 corridor—including Iowa City, Davenport, and Galesburg—may see storms roll through between 8 PM and 10 PM, while areas farther north like Dubuque and Freeport could be impacted closer to 10 PM to midnight. Non-thunderstorm winds overnight may still gust over 40 mph even if storms do not develop.

Residents are urged to monitor alerts, especially during the overnight hours. “Have multiple ways to receive warnings, especially if you will be asleep,” the NWS advised.

Storm risks diminish after midnight, but additional updates may follow as conditions evolve.
