Chicago, IL – Illinois State Police have arrested a Glenwood man in connection with an alleged road rage shooting on Interstate 94 that occurred early Saturday morning on Chicago’s South Side.
According to the Illinois State Police, Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 special agents arrested 50-year-old Byron A. Coleman of Glenwood after an incident that began around 2:02 a.m. Friday, July 18, 2026, on southbound I-94 near 130th Street.
Investigators said the incident started as an alleged road rage encounter before Coleman allegedly fired a weapon at another vehicle. Police said the victim’s vehicle was not struck, and the driver was not injured.
Troopers quickly identified the suspect vehicle after both vehicles crossed into Indiana. With assistance from the Lake County Sheriff’s Office and the Indiana State Police, authorities stopped both vehicles and took Coleman into custody.
According to ISP, the case was presented to the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office on Sunday, July 19, 2026, and Coleman was charged with one count of Reckless Discharge of a Firearm, a Class 4 felony. He remains in custody pending his first court appearance. No additional information has been released.
Illinois State Police reminded motorists to avoid engaging with aggressive drivers.
