Illinois I-80 Fatal Hit-and-Run: Man Arrested After Deadly Lansing Crash

Lansing, IL – Illinois State Police have arrested a man in connection with a fatal hit-and-run crash that claimed the life of a pedestrian on Interstate 80 in Lansing earlier this week.

According to Illinois State Police, Special Agents with the Division of Criminal Investigation arrested 29-year-old Kujleet Singh Kang on June 26 following an investigation into the fatal crash.

Troopers responded at approximately 5:29 a.m. on June 24 to reports of a serious personal injury crash on I-80 westbound near Torrence Avenue. Investigators said a motorist who had stopped to change a tire was struck by a passing vehicle.

The victim was identified as Sebastian D. Stone, 23, of Carpentersville, Illinois. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver allegedly fled after the collision.

Following what authorities described as a swift and thorough investigation, Illinois State Police identified Kang as the alleged driver of the suspect vehicle. He was arrested on June 26.

According to ISP, the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office approved charges of:

  • Leaving the Scene of a Fatal Injury Crash (Class 1 Felony)
  • Reckless Homicide (Class 3 Felony)

Kang is being held at the Cook County Jail pending his first court appearance.

The investigation remains ongoing.

The charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
