Central Illinois – Rain and fog will dominate the weather in Central Illinois to start the week, with a cooling trend expected by midweek. Residents across the I-55 Corridor, Illinois River Valley, and East Central Illinois regions should prepare for damp commutes and reduced visibility, particularly Monday morning.

According to the National Weather Service, widespread rain showers will transition to areas of drizzle and dense fog overnight Sunday into Monday. Motorists along I-55, I-72, and surrounding roadways are advised to allow extra time and drive cautiously due to reduced visibility, particularly in the early hours. Rain is expected to taper off Monday afternoon, with temperatures rising to the low 50s before cooling back into the 40s by night.

On Tuesday, conditions will briefly clear with partly sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-40s. However, another round of rain is expected Tuesday night into Wednesday, accompanied by a noticeable temperature drop. Highs on Wednesday will struggle to reach 40 degrees, with overnight lows dipping into the 30s.

Dense fog may continue into early Monday across northern portions of Central Illinois, particularly north of I-72. Travelers are encouraged to check local weather updates and monitor conditions for potential delays or disruptions.

Looking ahead, a colder pattern will settle in for the second half of the week, with highs hovering in the upper 30s to low 40s and drier conditions expected.

Stay informed and exercise caution on the road as visibility and slick conditions could pose challenges.
