Hoffman Estates, IL – Tuesday’s severe weather outbreak across Illinois resulted in at least five tornadoes and widespread golf ball-sized hail, causing extensive damage.

One tornado reportedly impacted Waubonsee Community College in Sugar Grove, with additional tornadoes reported near Schaumburg, Big Rock, and in Cook and DeKalb counties. The storms also unleashed large hailstones across the region, with reports of golf ball-sized hail in Tinley Park, Oak Forest, Darien, and Romeoville.

Despite the severity of the storms, which included wind gusts exceeding 60 miles per hour, no injuries have been immediately reported in any of the events.

Communities are now grappling with damage assessments and power outages, with ComEd crews working to restore electricity. The Village of Hoffman Estates has prioritized emergency responses, debris clearance, and power restoration in the storm’s aftermath. The storms also prompted a temporary ground stop at O’Hare International Airport and Midway International Airport.

As the region begins its recovery, a significant temperature drop and potential snowfall are forecasted, followed by a warming trend by the weekend.
