Crescent City, IL – A hazardous material incident involving a muriatic acid spill occurred Saturday morning at the Crescent City Post Office, resulting in respiratory injuries to a postal delivery driver. The spill, caused by a jug of the acid falling inside a delivery truck, activated a full-scale emergency response.

Crescent-Iroquois Fire oversaw the swift action taken to contain the situation, with no significant threat posed to the community. The emergency teams, including local fire and EMS, Watseka Fire, Iroquois County Emergency Management, and the MABAS 7 HazMat Emergency Response Team from Kankakee County, collaborated to neutralize the danger and clean up the spill efficiently.

The driver, who was exposed to fumes from the leaking acid, received prompt medical attention at IMH and was later released. The response units were on scene from early morning until about noon, ensuring the safety of postal workers and residents. The comprehensive handling of the incident reflects the high level of preparedness by local emergency services for potential HazMat situations.
