Lincoln, IL – Central Illinois is on alert for severe thunderstorms over the next three days, with significant weather events expected through Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service in Lincoln, today’s storms will be scattered and primarily north of I-70, with a level 2 risk. Temperatures will reach the mid to upper 80s, with a 40% chance of thunderstorms tonight and temperatures dropping to the mid-60s.
Tuesday poses the greatest threat, with severe weather likely in the evening. Areas west of I-55 face a level 3 risk, with damaging winds, hail, and possible tornadoes predicted. Daytime highs will approach 90 degrees, cooling to the low 60s overnight. Storm chances increase to 70% Tuesday night.
By Wednesday, the cold front moving through the area will shift the severe weather risk to regions near and south of I-70. The risk level returns to 2, with damaging winds and hail remaining threats. Temperatures will cool to between 75 and 78 degrees west of I-55, with a 50% chance of thunderstorms.
