Illinois Faces Bitter Cold and Snow Chances This Week—Wind Chills Plummet Below Zero

Champaign, IL – Central Illinois is bracing for a dangerous stretch of cold weather this week, with wind chills plunging as low as -20°F. The National Weather Service has issued a Cold Weather Advisory for portions of east-central Illinois, warning residents of frostbite risks in as little as 30 minutes.

According to the National Weather Service, the advisory begins Monday at 9 p.m.and lasts through Tuesday at noon. Bitter cold will persist through the week, with morning wind chills between -5°F and -15°F through Friday. Highs will struggle to reach the upper teens, and a chance of snow Tuesday night could create slick roads.

5-Day Forecast for Central Illinois:

Tuesday: High of 13°F, wind chills as low as -15°F. Mostly sunny.

Wednesday: High of 16°F, partly cloudy with wind chills near -10°F.

Thursday: High of 15°F, mostly sunny. Low of 2°F at night.

Friday: High of 23°F, staying mostly sunny.

Saturday: High of 30°F, slightly warmer but still cold.
