Madison County, IL – Motorists traveling on Interstate 270 in Madison County should prepare for significant delays this weekend due to lane closures. Starting at 9 p.m. on Friday, July 26, the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) will initiate lane closures on the bridges carrying I-270 over the Chain of Rocks Canal, west of the I-270/Illinois 3 interchange.

According to IDOT, the closures are necessary for critical deck sealing work. While one lane will remain open to traffic, drivers should anticipate slower travel times and potential congestion in the area. The maintenance work is expected to be completed by 5 a.m. on Monday, July 29, at which point all lanes will reopen.

Motorists are advised to plan their routes accordingly and consider alternate paths to avoid the construction zone. For real-time traffic updates and road conditions, travelers can visit IDOT’s official website at https://idot.click/u6h.
