Barrington, IL – A Lake County Sheriff’s investigation has led to the recovery of more than 70 stolen LG appliances and the discovery of suspected homemade explosives during a search in unincorporated Barrington.

According to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office, detectives began looking into 36-year-old Jeffery L. Hendon Jr., of the 27600 block of West Cuba Road, after learning he was allegedly selling brand-new appliances at unusually low prices on social media. Undercover officers reportedly purchased an LG oven from Hendon and confirmed through the serial number that it had been stolen.

Investigators said the appliance, along with dozens of others, had been taken in February from a warehouse in Lockport. The items were allegedly stolen from a cargo truck at a distribution center and were valued in the tens of thousands of dollars.

A search warrant executed Thursday reportedly turned up 71 LG ovens and dryers, all believed to be stolen. Deputies also allegedly found numerous items appearing to be homemade explosives. The Waukegan Bomb Squad responded to safely remove and dispose of the materials.

The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office has charged Hendon with online sale of stolen goods and theft over $10,000, both Class 2 felonies, as well as unlawful possession of explosives, a Class 3 felony. Officials said more charges are possible.

Hendon is scheduled to appear in court Friday morning. Sheriff John D. Idleburg said the case shows the impact of large-scale theft on both businesses and consumers and credited detectives for removing dangerous explosives from the community.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
