Hanna City, IL – A Hanna City man was found dead early Saturday after allegedly fleeing the scene of a late-night crash involving a dump truck.
According to the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to a vehicle in a ditch around 10:43 p.m. Friday, March 21, in the 200 block of N. Third St. Witnesses told deputies the driver had fled on foot after the crash. Authorities identified the suspected driver as 39-year-old Keith Siegel but were unable to locate him during their initial search.
Several hours later, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 22, deputies were called to a business in the 12900 block of W. Farmington Rd., where a man was found unresponsive behind dumpsters. The male, identified as Siegel, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics and the Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
Deputies reviewed security footage and interviewed witnesses, determining that Siegel may have fallen from a retaining wall and struck his head. An autopsy has been scheduled to determine the official cause of death. The Logan-Trivoli Fire Department also responded to the scene.
The case remains under investigation by the Peoria County Sheriff’s Office and Peoria County Coroner’s Office.
