Illinois Crash: Police Seek Dashcam Video After Fatal I-94 Hit-and-Run

Chicago, IL – Illinois State Police are asking for the public’s help Saturday after a pedestrian was killed in a hit-and-run crash on Interstate 94 near 47th Street early Friday morning.

According to Illinois State Police, the fatal crash occurred around 2:39 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, in the northbound local lanes of I-94. Investigators are seeking witnesses who may have seen the collision or captured it on dashcam video.

Police said a red Jeep SUV was stopped in the center lane when its driver was outside the vehicle. The person was standing in front of the Jeep when they were struck by a separate vehicle, according to the state police news release.

The vehicle that struck the pedestrian fled the scene, police said. The release did not provide a description of the suspected hit-and-run vehicle or identify the person who was killed.

Illinois State Police Division of Criminal Investigation Zone 1 is handling the investigation and is asking anyone who was traveling through the area around the time of the crash to consider whether they witnessed anything that could help investigators.
