Champaign, IL – Bitter cold grips central Illinois as subzero wind chills continue through midweek, posing frostbite risks in as little as 30 minutes. The National Weather Service warns that wind chills could drop as low as -20°F overnight, making travel and outdoor exposure dangerous.
According to the National Weather Service, a Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until noon Tuesday. Wind chill values are expected to range from 5 to 20 below zero each morning through Thursday, with slightly warmer temperatures arriving by the weekend.
Wednesday will remain frigid, with a high near 16°F and wind chills between -8°F and -16°F. Overnight, temperatures will dip to around 1°F with continued northwest winds. By Thursday and Friday, conditions will improve slightly, with sunny skies and highs in the upper teens and 20s.
A warming trend is expected this weekend, with highs reaching the 40s by Sunday. Residents should dress in layers, limit outdoor exposure, and stay updated on changing conditions.
