Champaign, IL – After a frigid stretch of arctic air, temperatures in central Illinois are set to rise heading into the weekend. Residents can expect a gradual warm-up, but bitterly cold wind chills will persist Thursday night into early Friday.
According to the National Weather Service, Thursday night wind chills will range from -10°F to -15°F. However, Friday will bring sunshine and highs near 27°F. The warming trend continues into the weekend, with Saturday reaching 34°F and Sunday climbing to 44°F. Overnight lows will remain chilly, dipping to 12°F on Friday night and 23°F on Saturday night.
Winds will shift from northwest to southwest, helping to push warmer air into the region. Gusts may reach 20 mph Thursday but will ease by Friday afternoon. By Monday, highs could top 50°F, signaling a break from the recent deep freeze.
Motorists should remain cautious of slick roads in the morning hours, especially in shaded areas where ice lingers. Residents are advised to bundle up Thursday night but prepare for a much milder weekend.
