Chicago, IL – A Wind Advisory remains in effect across parts of northern Illinois and northwest Indiana through this evening, with strong gusts expected to impact travel and power reliability across several counties.

According to the National Weather Service in Chicago, the advisory affects counties including La Salle, Grundy, Kankakee, Livingston, Iroquois, and Ford in Illinois, and Newton and Benton counties in Indiana. The advisory is active until 7 p.m. CDT for Illinois areas and until 8 p.m. EDT for Benton County, Indiana.

Forecasters report sustained south winds ranging from 20 to 30 mph, with gusts potentially reaching up to 45 mph. The gusty conditions may lead to unsecured objects being blown around, fallen tree limbs, and possible isolated power outages in affected areas.

Motorists—particularly those driving high-profile vehicles—are urged to use caution during travel, especially on open roads and highways. The National Weather Service advises securing outdoor items and remaining vigilant for downed limbs and utility lines.

Cities under the advisory include Kankakee, Ottawa, Morris, Pontiac, Paxton, Watseka, and Roselawn, among others.

This weather event follows a pattern of increased wind activity across the region this spring, underscoring the importance of staying informed during rapidly changing weather conditions.
