Boise, ID – A winter weather advisory has been issued for Idaho’s West Central Mountains, including McCall and Cascade, with heavy snow expected to impact the region from Saturday night through Sunday afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Boise, the advisory is in effect from 9 p.m. MDT Saturday until noon Sunday. Snowfall is projected to accumulate between 4 to 9 inches in mountain valleys before potentially mixing with rain by Sunday afternoon. Higher elevations above 6,000 feet will remain all snow, with significant accumulation expected throughout the weekend.

Gusty southerly winds up to 15 mph will accompany the snow in lower elevations, while mountain passes could see wind gusts as high as 40 mph on Sunday. The combination of heavy snowfall and strong winds will lead to hazardous travel conditions, particularly in higher passes where travel may become nearly impossible at times.

Residents and travelers are advised to exercise caution, as roads are likely to become slick and hazardous. Those traveling through the region should check road conditions by calling 511 and allow for extra travel time.

Authorities recommend slowing down, driving with caution, and preparing for winter weather conditions through Sunday morning.
