Pocatello, ID – A powerful winter storm continues to impact central Idaho, bringing heavy snowfall and strong winds to multiple regions, including the Sun Valley area.

According to the National Weather Service in Pocatello, the Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 5 AM MST Wednesday. Additional snow accumulations of 2 to 6 inches in valleys and 12 to 28 inches on upper slopes and ridges are expected. Wind gusts could reach 40 mph on ridgetops, creating dangerous travel conditions.

The affected areas include the Big Lost Highlands, Copper Basin, Frank Church Wilderness, Sawtooth/Stanley Basin, and Sun Valley Region, impacting cities such as Ketchum, Stanley, and Clayton. The storm is expected to disrupt Tuesday morning and evening commutes, with some roads potentially becoming impassable.

Officials urge residents to avoid unnecessary travel. Those who must drive should carry an emergency kit with food, water, and a flashlight. Travelers can check road conditions at 511.idaho.gov.
