Pocatello, ID – A cold front will bring rain, snow, and icy temperatures to Pocatello and surrounding areas this week, significantly impacting travel and outdoor activities. The National Weather Service in Pocatello forecasts a series of weather systems moving in from the Pacific, bringing unstable conditions and a wintry mix for much of southeastern Idaho. Residents and travelers along I-86 should prepare for slippery conditions and reduced visibility.

According to the National Weather Service, the first storm system will arrive today, bringing light rain with temperatures peaking at 49 degrees. Overnight, the precipitation will turn into a mix of rain and snow as temperatures drop to 31 degrees, raising the risk of icy roads and dangerous driving conditions through Tuesday morning.

Tuesday’s forecast includes continued rain and snow showers with a high of 45 degrees, followed by a colder night reaching lows around 27 degrees. Expect mostly cloudy skies through Wednesday, offering a brief pause in the precipitation. However, this reprieve will be short-lived as another stronger system is set to hit on Thursday.

From Thursday through Saturday, the area will see heavy snow in higher elevations and a rain-snow mix in the valleys, including Pocatello. Highs are predicted in the mid-40s, while lows hover around freezing, with gusty winds likely to exacerbate freezing conditions. Snow accumulations in surrounding mountains could reach up to 4 inches, adding to potential travel delays.
