Kalispell, MT – Freezing rain is expected across western Montana late Saturday night, potentially creating hazardous road conditions in Flathead and Mission Valleys.
According to the National Weather Service in Missoula, a Winter Weather Advisory is in effect from 11 p.m. Saturday to 8 a.m. Sunday. Ice accumulations ranging from a light glaze to one-tenth of an inch are expected on ground surfaces.
Affected areas include Highway 2 from Kalispell to Libby, Highway 93 from Eureka to Whitefish, and roads near Flathead Lake, Bigfork, and Swan Lake. Secondary roads, gravel roads, and dirt roads are expected to be especially treacherous.
Drivers should use caution, reduce speeds, and prepare for slick roads, particularly in low-lying areas. Elevated surfaces, such as power lines, are not expected to see significant ice buildup.
Residents should be prepared for possible power outages and difficult travel conditions. For up-to-date road conditions, call 511 or check state transportation websites.
