I-93 Crash in Salem Splits Car in Two, Driver Hospitalized

Salem, NH – A high-speed crash on I-93 southbound in Salem sent a 22-year-old Lawrence man to a Boston hospital with life-threatening injuries late Wednesday. State troopers arrived at mile marker 1.4 around 10:35 p.m. after receiving reports of a car crash involving a single vehicle.

According to New Hampshire State Police, the driver, Fredi Lopez De Leon, lost control of his white 2016 Lexus IS-300, left the road, and struck several trees. The impact split the car in half. Salem Fire Department responded and extracted Lopez De Leon, transporting him to a nearby field for a helicopter evacuation to Boston.

Troop B of New Hampshire State Police and the Department of Transportation assisted on the scene, closing a travel lane for about two hours while investigating the crash. Authorities continue to investigate and urge anyone with information to contact Trooper Matthew Howe.

Lopez De Leon was traveling at high speed before the crash, witness reports confirmed. His current condition remains critical.
