Springfield, Ill. – Scattered thunderstorms are expected across much of Illinois tonight as a cold front moves through, bringing gusty winds and a drop in temperatures. Drivers could face slick roads late this evening before conditions improve overnight.

According to the National Weather Service in Central Illinois, skies will clear by early Thursday as winds turn out of the northwest and cooler air settles into the region. Highs will remain in the lower to middle 70s through Saturday, a noticeable change from recent late-summer heat.

Another weak front could spark light showers Friday night, mainly south of Interstate 70, though most of the state will stay dry heading into the weekend. Cities including Springfield, Decatur, and Champaign can expect cooler mornings with lows dipping into the upper 40s to low 50s, while Peoria and Bloomington see sunshine return Thursday afternoon.

Residents should keep an eye on road conditions tonight and avoid driving during the heaviest downpours. Outdoor plans from Thursday onward look favorable, with mild temperatures and lower humidity lasting into the weekend.

Warnings are not in effect, but updates may be issued if showers strengthen Friday night.
