I-55 Traffic Alert: Two Chicago Suspects Arrested Near Gardner After High-Speed Pursuit

Gardner, IL – Two Chicago men were arrested early Sunday following a high-speed chase on I-55 that ended near Gardner, according to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office. The pursuit, which reached speeds over 100 mph, began when a deputy attempted to stop a black Ford Edge near the 218-mile marker after receiving a broadcast about a wanted vehicle.

Authorities deployed spike strips near the 223-mile marker, successfully deflating the vehicle’s tires. The suspects fled on foot near the 226-mile marker. One suspect, identified as Jimmy Giles, 22, was arrested immediately. Giles, who was armed with a 9mm handgun, was out on parole for prior weapons charges.

According to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office, the second suspect, Rory Clark, 26, was apprehended around 3 a.m. in a wooded area after a perimeter search involving K9 units and a drone. Clark was also found in possession of ammunition.

Both suspects are being held at the Grundy County Jail pending a Pre-Trial Release Hearing. Giles faces charges of unlawful possession of ammunition by a felon, while Clark is charged with unlawful possession of ammunition and aggravated fleeing.
