Milwaukee, Wis. – Southern Wisconsin drivers should prepare for slick roads and reduced visibility Monday as freezing fog and light snow develop across the region. The National Weather Service in Milwaukee/Sullivan warns that fog could become locally dense through the morning, especially near Janesville and along I-39 and I-90, leading to icy patches on untreated roads and bridges.

With temperatures well below freezing, even light fog may deposit thin layers of ice on elevated surfaces. By afternoon, light snow is expected to overspread the area, bringing around a dusting north of I-94 and 1 to 2 inches south of the interstate, including Janesville, Whitewater, and Kenosha.

Forecasters expect snowfall rates below half an inch per hour, but the dry, powdery snow could still cause blowing and drifting, especially during the evening commute. Drivers are urged to allow extra time, maintain safe following distances, and use caution when traveling through fog-prone or rural areas.

Snow will taper off late Monday night as skies clear and temperatures remain below freezing, keeping slick conditions in place into early Tuesday morning.

Minor travel impacts are expected through tonight, with conditions improving by Tuesday morning.
