Ithaca, NY – Floodwaters are already spilling into shoreline areas around Cayuga Lake, creating hazards for pedestrians and drivers near the water’s edge this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, Cayuga Lake at Ithaca remains above flood stage at 383.7 feet, exceeding the 383.5-foot threshold and flooding typically dry shoreline areas. Water levels are expected to hold steady above flood stage, keeping low-lying paths and nearby roads at risk until further notice.

In Cortland County, the Tioughnioga River is also causing problems, with levels at 8.5 feet as of Thursday afternoon. Minor flooding is impacting areas near Kellogg Road south of Cortland, where closures are possible through Friday evening as water gradually recedes.

Local officials warn drivers not to bypass barricades or attempt to cross flooded roadways. Even shallow water can stall vehicles or hide road damage beneath the surface.

Residents near both waterways should monitor conditions closely and be prepared for continued minor flooding into Friday. Additional updates are expected overnight as water levels are reassessed.
