Houston Weather Shift: Arctic Cold Ends as Rainy Weekend Leads to Warm-Up

Houston, TX – The bitter cold gripping southeast Texas will soon give way to a warming trend, but not before a rainy weekend ahead.

An Extreme Cold Warning remains in effect until 10 a.m. Thursday, with wind chills as low as 4°F. According to the National Weather Service, exposed skin could face hypothermia risks, and residents are urged to protect outdoor pipes and pets.

By Thursday afternoon, Houston will warm slightly to 41°F under partly sunny skies. However, overnight lows will remain cold at 30°F. Friday brings increasing cloud cover with a high of 39°F before a shift toward milder temperatures and rain chances over the weekend.

Saturday sees a 50% chance of showers with a high near 48°F, followed by an 80% likelihood of rain overnight. Sunday could bring thunderstorms, with showers tapering off by the afternoon and temperatures climbing to 56°F. The real warm-up begins Monday, with highs in the mid-60s before reaching the mid-70s midweek.
