HOUSTON, Texas – Southeast Texas faces another hot and hazy start to the week as an Air Quality Alert is in effect for Houston, Galveston, and surrounding areas through Monday evening. High ozone levels could pose health risks for children, older adults, and those with respiratory conditions.

According to the National Weather Service in Houston/Galveston, temperatures will climb into the low to mid-90s across much of the region, with Galveston holding slightly cooler in the upper 80s. Light winds and stagnant air are fueling ozone buildup, prompting officials to encourage residents to limit outdoor activity during the afternoon and early evening hours.

Scattered showers and storms remain possible, with a 20% rain chance from Houston southward into Angleton and Wharton, but forecasters do not expect widespread relief. Drivers are urged to carpool or delay unnecessary trips, as tailpipe emissions can worsen ozone pollution.

Those sensitive to poor air quality should stay indoors during peak afternoon heat and ensure air conditioners are functioning properly. Health officials recommend rescheduling exercise or outdoor chores for early morning or later in the evening.

The Air Quality Alert remains in place until midnight, with weather conditions expected to stay warm and humid through much of the week.
