Hobart, IN – Man Arrested for Attempted Home Invasion Near Rensselaer on March 23

Hobart, IN – A Hobart man was taken into custody after allegedly attempting to enter a vehicle and home northeast of Rensselaer early Sunday morning.

According to the Jasper County Sheriff’s Office, the incident occurred on the morning of March 23, 2025. A woman reported seeing a man in blue jeans and a black jacket trying to access her locked vehicle before approaching her residence. Fearing for her safety, she dialed 911.

Deputies arrived shortly after and located a man matching the suspect’s description. A witness confirmed his identity as Jacob A. Parketon, 31, of Hobart. He was arrested without incident and transported to the Jasper County Detention Center.

Parketon faces two charges: Attempted Residential Entry, a Level 6 felony, and Attempted Unauthorized Entry of a Motor Vehicle, a Class B misdemeanor.

The sheriff’s office has not reported any injuries, and officials confirmed the home was not entered. Authorities have not released information on whether Parketon was armed.

The investigation remains ongoing. All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.

Residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and ensure all home and vehicle doors remain locked.
