Monterey, VA – The National Weather Service (NWS) in Baltimore/Washington has issued a Wind Advisory for parts of western Virginia and eastern West Virginia, effective from 5 p.m. Sunday through 8 a.m. Monday.

The advisory includes Highland County in Virginia and Grant and Pendleton counties in West Virginia, where northwest winds of 20 to 30 mph with gusts up to 50 mph are expected overnight.

According to the NWS, these winds could blow down tree limbs and unsecured outdoor items, leading to isolated power outages and difficult driving conditions, especially for high-profile vehicles on mountain roads.

Residents in the affected counties are urged to secure outdoor furniture and decorations before winds increase this evening. Forecasters say gusts will peak late Sunday night and gradually ease by sunrise Monday as high pressure builds into the region.

Drivers traveling through mountain passes and ridgelines should use extra caution, particularly on U.S. Route 220 and surrounding rural routes.
