Rensselaer, NY – A powerful winter storm is set to impact eastern New York starting late Sunday, bringing a mix of snow, ice, and strong winds. Travel could be hazardous as wind gusts up to 65 mph may cause power outages and blowing snow.
According to the National Weather Service, a High Wind Warning will be in effect from Sunday night through Monday evening, with sustained winds of 25 to 35 mph and gusts reaching 65 mph. A Winter Weather Advisory remains active through Sunday, with snowfall totals of 2 to 5 inches expected before changing to a wintry mix and eventually rain.
On Washington’s Birthday (Monday), temperatures will drop to 24°F, with wind chills as low as -1°F. Light snow showers could lead to slick road conditions, especially in the morning. By Tuesday, another round of snow is possible, with highs in the low 20s.
Looking ahead, an Arctic blast will bring subzero wind chills by midweek, making outdoor conditions dangerous. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items, prepare for possible outages, and avoid unnecessary travel.
