CEDAR LAKE, IN – A helicopter crashed into a lake today, sparking a rescue operation.
According to reports the aircraft reportedly went down around 1 pm, plunging into the water. Emergency crews from the Cedar Lake Fire Department and Police Department swiftly responded to the site.
According to initial reports, the chopper was said to have been flying at a dangerously low altitude before tragically plummeting into the water. With the situation unfolding rapidly, all units promptly staged at South Shore Community Center to coordinate the rescue operation.
Miraculously, all occupants of the downed aircraft were successfully extracted from the water, in part thanks to the heroic efforts of the rescue teams, the victims received immediate medical attention.
Medics on the scene examined the patients for any injuries sustained during the terrifying crash.
Responding to the incident, the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been duly notified to initiate an investigation into the cause of this devastating accident. Meanwhile, a Hazmat team was dispatched to the crash site around 2:15 pm to assess and manage any potential environmental risks.
Initial reports suggest that the ill-fated helicopter originated from the Lansing Illinois, leaving authorities to investigate whether mechanical failure or other factors played a role in the tragic incident.
Investigators continue to work at the scene.
