BOISE, Idaho – Idaho residents face a shift from Halloween festivities to winter weather as snow and rain blanket the region today, driven by a storm system moving across the Pacific Northwest. Snow accumulation is expected to be heaviest in Idaho’s high-altitude areas, while gusty winds threaten south central Idaho, impacting travel conditions and outdoor activities.
According to the National Weather Service Boise, snowfall could reach 4 inches or more in higher elevations, especially in mountainous regions near McCall and Stanley. Wind gusts could hit 35 mph, primarily impacting areas around Mountain Home and southern counties. The system’s strength is expected to peak Friday afternoon and last through Saturday, creating hazardous driving conditions along Interstate 84 and Highway 55, especially for high-profile vehicles.
In Boise, temperatures will remain relatively mild, with highs reaching around 56°F today, accompanied by a 50% chance of rain in the afternoon. Conditions will transition into rain again tonight, with temperatures dipping to 41°F and gusts reaching up to 21 mph. Travelers are advised to plan ahead, as visibility may decrease rapidly during the heaviest periods of snow and rain.
The storm will likely persist through Saturday, bringing moderate rain and cooler temperatures. Sunday is expected to offer a brief respite, with clearer skies and highs around 48°F in the Boise area. As the new week begins, Monday will be mostly sunny with temperatures near 46°F, providing relief before another rain system potentially moves in Tuesday night.
Residents should monitor local weather updates for potential advisories and plan for delays, especially in elevated areas or along main routes where snow accumulations and wind could lead to slick roads and hazardous driving.
