Elko, NV – Northern Nevada could see up to 1 inch of snowfall tonight, prompting residents and travelers to prepare for slick and icy roads. The snowfall, which is expected to begin Friday night, may impact travel conditions on I-80 and surrounding highways through Saturday.

According to the U.S. National Weather Service in Elko, precipitation will begin around 6,000 feet tonight, with snow levels gradually dropping to 4,500 feet by Saturday evening. Areas such as Elko, Owyhee, and McDermitt have a high probability of receiving up to 1 inch of snow, raising the potential for winter weather hazards.

Motorists are advised to exercise caution, as snow and ice could reduce traction and visibility, particularly in mountainous areas and higher elevations. The NWS encourages travelers to check local road conditions and consider delaying non-essential travel until snowfall tapers off by late Saturday.

The five-day forecast for Northern Nevada shows a mix of rain and snow throughout the weekend, with clearer skies anticipated starting Monday. Temperatures will remain cool, with highs in the low 40s and nighttime lows dipping into the teens by early next week.

Residents are advised to prepare vehicles for winter conditions, ensure they have adequate supplies, and stay informed on weather updates.
